Kishna leads Pirates to bronze finish

RR Cross Country

PENINSULA, Ohio – Rocky River Boys’ Cross Country placed third in the Woodridge Invitational, held Saturday morning at Cuyahoga Valley National Park. [results]

River earned five top-50 performances in culling together a team score of 136. Only host Woodridge (26 points) and Brecksville (82) logged better scores in a field of 19 teams. Junior Luke Kishna crossed the wire in 18:29.9 to finish ninth. He was followed by fellow scoring Pirates Guillaume Carroll (15th), Luke Dorenkott (28th), Greg Ganor (41st) and Sam Buehrle (43rd).

Five of Rocky River’s varsity runners Saturday were underclassmen.

Ryan Champa of Woodridge placed first with a time of 17:23.9.

In Saturday’s junior varsity/open race, Rocky River placed third. Led by Luke Erml (second) and Will Slyman (ninth), the Pirates clocked in with 84 points, one behind second-place Brecksville (83). Woodridge won with 28 points.

The Rocky River girls’ squad was idle this week.
