Holy Name tops Rocky River, 3-0

RR Volleyball

PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Holy Name Green Wave completed a regular-season sweep of the Rocky River Pirates by topping the Maroon & White in straight sets on Tuesday night.

The host Green Wave (14-2, 11-0 Great Lakes Conference) defeated the Pirates, 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-20), backing up a 3-0 win at Rocky River Gymnasium on Aug. 27. Tuesday’s rematch was a meeting between the top two teams in the GLC.

Rocky River (11-5, 9-2) was tagged with 21 blocking errors and 31 dig errors in trying to defend a robust Holy Name attack. The Pirates’ 34 total points marked the team’s fewest in a regulation match since Aug. 26 (33 in 3-0 loss to Magnificat). River collected 26 kills against 19 hitting errors en route to posting an .066 attack mark.

Emily Stanciu (seven kills, seven digs) paced the River effort.

The Pirates will return to the court with a non-conference match on Saturday (at Brecksville, noon).
