FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio – Rocky River competed against new
league foe Fairview and Valley Forge in a Thursday-night triple dual at
Fairview High School.The Pirates were felled by the host Warriors, 60-18. River
beat the Patriots, 36-24.
Senior Mahdi Salti went 2-0 with two pins on the evening,
and Matt Williams and Ryan Maloney had key victories against Valley Forge.
“Matt’s strength and speed look great this time of year,” said Head Coach Matt Sycz. “His hard work in practices is coming through in these matches. Ryan and Mahdi were smart and versatile in the way they handled their opponents.”
On Tuesday, Sycz and the Pirates will travel to Sheffield,
Ohio, for a pair of non-conference matches. River will take on host Brookside and
Lutheran West.
“This team has made so much progress in the second half of the season,” said Rocky River’s first-year bench boss. Mistakes we made early on are being kept to a minimum. We’re coming out aggressive and relentless in our matches. Its very exciting to see.”
