Pirates sink Strongsville, 13-5

RR Boys' Lacrosse

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio -- Rocky River remained undefeated in Northern Ohio Lacrosse League play with a 13-5 victory at Strongsville Tuesday.

The Pirates (8-3, 7-0 NOLL) hung crooked numbers in all four quarters and clocked a 57-21 advantage in shots, as they rebounded from a 5-4 non-league loss at Columbus Watterson on Saturday. Rowan McDougal (four goals), Will Bennett (three goals), Hayden Weaver (two goals, two assists), and Ryan Hildebrand (two goals, assist) paced a Rocky River offense which found twine on half of the 26 shots it put on frame.

River registered 27 ground balls to the Mustangs' 14, and the Pirates clocked some significant possession tilt with a 16-4 advantage on faceoffs. Mack Massad went 15-4 on midfield scrums. Massad (nine ground balls), Kai Delventhal (three), and Matthew George (three) led Pirates' ground-ball brigade.

Reece Rochester (who scored as a field player late in the contest) and Carter Smith split River's cage time in 38-and-10 (minutes) fashion. They would only see 11 shots on goal for the evening.

With the victory, Rocky River has won six of its last seven games. The Pirates are scheduled to host Walsh Jesuit on Thursday. The game at Rocky River Stadium will mark the program's Senior Night.
