Pirates fall in local Streak fight

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- The Blue Streaks bolted to an 8-1 lead over the first 15 minutes of play in Tuesday's, and Magnificat would leverage that start into a 19-8 victory over Rocky River in an all-River battle at Magnificat High School on Tuesday.

The Pirates (10-6) were solid over the middle minutes of the contest. Ella Nejad and Olivia Konopka each had multiple points in a 5-3 run that got had the visitors within five (11-6) by the 20:30-mark of the second half. But Magnificat would outscore River, 8-2, the rest of the way, and that final stretch included keeping the Pirates off the scoreboard for the final 14 minutes.

The Blue Streaks' 19 goals marked a season-high against Rocky River.

The Pirates' production on offense was paced by Nejad (two goals), Konopka (goal, two assists), and Iris Polly (two goals).

The loss, Rocky River's fourth in a row against a talented late-season slate, closed out the Pirates' regular season. The Double-R is scheduled to host Toledo Central Catholic in a Region 5 contest in the D-II OHSAA playoffs. That game at Rocky River Stadium will be on May 19 (time TBA).

The River junior varsity squad closed out its 2021 season with an 11-4 victory over Magnificat. The JV went 14-0.

POLLY POCKETS POINT No. 20:
With her two goals Tuesday, Iris Polly now has 20 points on the season. Polly has registered 16 goals and four assists. ... Ella Nejad carded point No. 30 this spring. Nejad has recorded three straight multi-point games and has 20 goals and 10 assists overall. ... Rocky River's top two scorers through 16 games are Olivia Konopka (41-16--57) and Allie Kysela (37-5--42).
