Normandy storms River, 17-1

PARMA, Ohio -- Rocky River opened Great Lakes Conference play with a 17-1 setback at Normandy on Monday.

The Invaders plated 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning of an eventual five-frame, run-rule affair at Nike Park. Normandy had two doubles and a triple as part of a contest that saw the home nine outhit the visitors, 12-4.

Normandy scored in every inning. Rocky River (1-4, 0-1 GLC) tallied a lone run in the top of the first inning when catcher Kelsey Murphy smacked her sixth career home run. Murphy was 2-for-2 in the game; the junior slugger is 9-of-14 (.643) on the season and has four multi-hit games.

The Pirates are scheduled to host a GLC contest against the Parma Redmen on Tuesday.
