Pirates close out 2020-21 season

RR Wrestling

NORWALK, Ohio -- Rocky River closed out its season Friday with a trio of grapplers competing in DII Norwalk District Tournament action.

Junior Omar Abazied, sophomore Aidan Konet, and senior Ryan Maloney competed in the event which is being concluded Saturday. Each was ousted in two hard-fought bouts against tremendous competition. Abazied closed out his winter campaign with a record of 7-10. Konet (9-8) and Maloney (9-7) finished above .500; they each had one loss against wrestlers still alive in the brackets. The Pirate trio competed at 160, 182, and 120 pounds, respectively.

Abazied and Maloney qualified for the event at Norwalk High School with top-4 finishes on sectional mats a week ago. Konet competed as an alternate. Rocky River also had Obaida Abazied, Zane Lindquist, and Nathan Maloney on hand as alternates.

Through Friday's action, Wauseon (72 points) and Great Lakes Conference member Buckeye (70), were leading the tournament in team points.
