River redemption: Double-R pummels Pats, 22-2

RR Softball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- The Maroon & White earned a bounce-back win Saturday, as Rocky River pounded the Patriots of Valley Forge High School, 22-2.

Three Pirate hurlers -- Katie Mommers, Maggie Hill, Colleen Meese -- combined to allow just three hits while striking out nine in the five-inning, mercy-rule content at Pirate Field. The Great Lakes Conference victory marked a solid rebound off a 14-2 loss to Normandy on Friday.

Rocky River (7-5, 4-2 GLC) bludgeoned Valley Forge pitching to the tune of five runs in the first inning, seven in the second, and 10 in the third before being held scoreless in the fourth. River put together 12 hits, 12 walks, and six Patriot errors in its near-ceaseless circuit of the bags at the Corner on Northview & 90. There was perhaps only more traffic on the interstate highway below.

The Pirate attack was bolstered by Kelsey Murphy (3-for-3, double, walk, four runs batted in), Lindsay Hartman (2-for-3, triple, walk, three RBIs), and Mommers (2-for-3, two walks, two RBIs). In the circle, Mommers allowed one unearned run while striking out seven in three innings or work.

With Saturday's win, Rocky River is 6-1 over its last seven games.
