Streak snapped as Pirates fall to Invaders

RR Softball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- The Pirates saw their win streak halted at five in a 14-2 loss to Normandy in Friday afternoon Great Lakes Conference action.

Losing for the first time since April 5 -- a game against these same Invaders -- Rocky River was soundly defeated by a Normandy nine clicking in all phases of the game. The Pirates (6-5, 3-2 GLC) were held to just two hits in the run-rule contest at the Corner of Northview & 90. The visitors scored in every inning, making the most of nine hits, six walks, and three River errors.

The Invaders tallied three runs in the first, three more in the second, and six in a bat-around third, as they opened a 12-0 lead. Rocky River's only answer was a two-out, two-run double off the bat of Katie Mommers in the home half of the third.

The Pirates scoring just two runs was a slam-on-the-brakes halt of an offensive barrage that saw the team score 85 runs in its previous five games.

Rocky River will have a crack at getting back to its winning ways when the Pirates host Valley Forge on Saturday.
