High five! Win streak hits 5 as River rips Patriots, 18-1

PARMA, Ohio -- Rocky River belted out an 18-1 victory over Valley Forge, as the Pirates won their fifth consecutive game on Tuesday.

The Maroon & White got a steady circle performance from Maggie Hill and a slew of big hitting performances up and down the lineup in a five-inning run-rule contest. Hill pitched all five frames, allowing just one run on three base hits. The junior hurler fanned seven against just one walk. Hill was staked to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. That inning would mark the first of five in a row that saw the Pirates (6-4, 3-1 Great Lakes Conference) post crooked numbers.

Rocky River plated three in the first, two in the second, five in the third, six in the fourth, and two in the fifth. The Patriots' lone answer was a solo marker in the home half of the fourth. That run was cobbled together after Hill had retired nine of the first 11 batters she faced.

Propelling a River attack on a roll were Maire Kelly (2-for-4, double, two runs batted in, two stolen bases), Emily Satayatham (3-for-3, four runs, two steals), Katie Mommers (4-for-5, five RBIs, four runs, triple, home run), Lexi Aguilar (3-for-4, 5 RBIs), and Julianna Benjamin (2-for-3, two doubles). The Pirates put their leadoff batter on base in 4-of-5 innings and went 10-for-23 with runners in scoring position. River clubbed five extra-base hits and swiped nine bases.

For the game, Rocky River outhit Valley Forge, 15-3.

In their five-game streak, the Pirates have outscored their opponents, 85-21. Rocky River has registered 24 extra-base hits over that span.
