Chills & thrills: River freezes out Bulldogs, 16-2

RR Girls' Lacrosse

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- On Tuesday, Rocky River's hot streak continued on a cold night at Rocky River Stadium. Winning their sixth game in a row, the Pirates dispatched the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs, 16-2.

The Northern Ohio Lacrosse League contest was a one-side affair from the outset, and after allowing just two shots in the opening 25 minutes of play, Rocky River was able to get ample playing time for its reserves. Clocking a season-best with the two goals allowed -- one in each half, the Pirates outshot the Bulldogs, 28-8, and dominated the game in draw controls and ground balls. Eleven River players scored goals on the night; 14 logged at least one ground ball. The Pirates' 16 goals tied a season high (16 vs. Bay on April 10).

Rocky River (7-1, 4-1 NOLL) outscored Olmsted Falls, 8-1, in each half. The Pirate goal scorers on the night were Grace Harte, Blair Willse (two), Allie Kysela (three), Olivia Konopka (two), Daisy Thompson, Kaitlyn Byrne, Iris Polly, Lauren Solecki, Ella Nejad (two), Evelyn Polly, and Lilly Milius. Blair Willse and Allie Kysela each logged multiple assists in the game, Willse with three and Kysela with two. Both Kysela and Olivia Konopka notched season goal No. 20 during the contest.

The Pirates' ground-ball leaders on the night were Lauren Solecki (four), Willse (three), and Konopka (three). Willse all-around line included a caused turnover.

River put 21 shots on frame to the Bulldogs' four. Hannah Burgess and Evie Kelley split the game in the Pirate cage. Kelley registered two saves.

Next up for the Double-R is a contest in Columbus: the Pirates are scheduled to take on Worthington Kilbourne on Friday afternoon.
