Win streak snapped at Kilbourne: Pirates fall, 12-6

RR Girls' Lacrosse

WORTHINGTON, Ohio -- Rocky River had a six-game win streak snapped against a talented Worthington Kilbourne squad in a feature non-conference game on Friday. The host Wolves -- ranked No. 1 in Ohio DII Girls' Lacrosse (LaxNumbers.com) -- scored eight of the first nine goals in the contest and went on to defeat the Pirates, 12-6.

Kilbourne (6-3) took a 3-0 lead over the first four minutes-and-18 seconds. River got on the board at 18:06 of the first period, but that score -- on Iris Polly's 12th goal of the season -- would be the Pirates' lone tally in the final minute of the opening half of what was a physical road test for the Maroon & White. The Wolves took an 8-2 lead into halftime. Half of Kilbourne's goals in the first came on free-position looks.

The balance of the Friday night tussle was an exchange of scores and yellow cards, in doses that played out to a six-goal setback for the Pirates, who tasted defeat for the first time since March 23.

The Wolves' dozen scores marked the second-most River has yielded this spring (16 vs. Avon, March 23). The Rocky River offense was led by senior Allie Kysela (two goals), sophomore Olivia Konopka (two goals), and senior Blair Willse (goal, assist).

The Pirates (7-2) are slated to return to action with a Northern Ohio Lacrosse League home game (Strongsville) on Tuesday.
