ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Rocky River High School senior Natalie Yan won a National Gold Medal for her photograph titled “Pity Party” in the 2023 Scholastic Art & Writing Exhibition. The nationwide contest began in 1923 and draws thousands of entries each year.
Every year since 1923, the Scholastic Awards have been the longest-running and most prestigious awards for creative youth in the country. Thousands of students submit their art and writing portfolios each year in hopes of receiving recognition. Students are first recognized and awarded on a regional level. If they receive a Gold Key award, the highest regional award, their work is evaluated again for national recognition.
Yan is one of just 20 students from the Northeast Ohio area to earn the prestigious award.
