Konet moves on to district tourney
RR Wrestling
PAINESVILLE, Ohio (Feb. 25, 2023) -- The Wrestling Raiders will be sending a qualifier and an alternate to the March 3-4 DII Garfield Heights District Tournament [brackets].

Rocky River senior Aidan Konet punched his ticket for the event with a fourth-place finish in a Saturday sectional qualifying tournament at Painesville Harvey High School. Konet won a 14-3 major decision in his first bout at 215 pounds. He then lost a hard-fought 3-2 tussle against Wade Woodworth (Jefferson Area). River's 215-pounder then won his 20th match of the season in 5-4 decision over Benedictine's Jamere Church. Konet -- now a three-time district qualifier -- was ousted by a fall in the third-place bout. He heads to Garfield Heights with a 20-4 record in tow.

Sophomore Lincoln Krish advances in the Buckeye State postseason as an alternate at 157 pounds. Krish went 4-2 with four wins by fall on Saturday. He earned a lightning-quick 22-second pin in the fifth-place bout against Youngstown Chaney's Tywan McDowell.

In the sectional meet, Rocky River tallied 58 points to finish 10th in a field of 16 teams. Nathan Maloney (138 pounds), Ilyas Bouchenafa (150), and London Hover (165) were the Pirates' other grapplers earning multiple wins Saturday.

The top-4 placers in each weight class at Garfield Heights will qualify for the DII Ohio Championships to be held March 10-12 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
