Pirates sunk by Avon 48-35

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Jan. 31, 2023) -- Rocky River dropped a non-conference game to Avon at Rocky River Gymnasium Tuesday. In a defensive tussle with shooting percentages dropping like the thermometer outside, the Eagles defeated the Pirates 48-35.

The first half of the game will certainly not be hanging in any sort of offensive basketball artistry exhibit at the Louvre. Both teams struggled mightily to find any shooting touch and rhythm in a 15-14 exchange with River the better by one.

The Pirates scored just one point in the second frame. The Eagles were held to single digits in each of the game's first three quarters before exploding for 23 points in the fourth.

Avon's fourth-frame outburst came after a 9-9 third-quarter swap. Junior guard Tyson Ziegler paced the Eagles in the fourth and finished the game with 12 points.

For the game, Rocky River's 35 points marked a season-low. Avon (11-5) snapped a three-game losing skid with the Tuesday night triumph.

Junior forward Nate Farley led the Eagles with 13 points. Junior forward Julian Patti led the Pirates with 15.

Rocky River (9-7) was a minus in rebounding and turnovers. [Final game stats unavailable at time of publication.]

The Pirates will close out their Great Lakes Conference slate Friday when they visit the Bay Rockets.
