Kensington Destination Imagination Team Wins State Championship

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio - Six teams from the Rocky River City School District competed at the Destination Imagination (DI) Ohio State Tournament that was hosted by Centerville on Saturday.

The team Sponge Bob Circle Pants, consisting Kensington students Eddie Boehm, Racco Klidas and Adam Schenker, captured first place in the Engineering Challenge to win the state title.

Listed below are the teams and students from RRCSD who competed at the state meet:

  • 1st place - Sponge Bob Circle Pants (Eddie Boehm, Racco Klidas, Adam Schenker, KIS) - Engineering (Roll With It)
    • The team created a structure that weighed 68 grams and held 820 pounds.
  • 3rd place - Homocapians (Evan Baisch, Luke Buehrle, Gage Gray, Thomas Malquest and Gigi Moeller, RRHS) - Improv (Festival Frenzy)
  • 5th place - The Castaways (Anna Baker, Eve Buehrle, Byrnn Holland, Kaja McKelway, Kiili McKelway and Melina Zavagno, KIS) -Fine Arts (Tricky Tales)
  • 7th place - Sweaty Try Hard Juniors (Emma Boehm, Arthur Klidas, Alice Schenker, Jaxson Uhl, KIS) - Scientific (Up Close)
  • 7th place - Science Kids (Luke Barker, Samuel Muzilla, Benny Simmons, Jack Sims, KIS) - Technical (Daring Escape)
  • 11th place - The Pirates (Anthony Graziani, Francesca Graziana, Samuel Wolf, Angie Zamcheck, KIS) - Fine Arts (Tricky Tales)
The purpose of DI is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. The program offers seven new standards-based Challenges annually in STEM, Improv, Visual Arts, Service Learning and Early Learning. Each challenge is open-ended and enables students and teams to learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation.
