Rocky River City Schools Continue to Rank Among Top Districts in Ohio

September 15, 2022

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – The Rocky River City School District (RRCSD) continues to perform among the top school districts in academic achievement in the state of Ohio according to the results of the Ohio Department of Education report cards that were released on Thursday.

“We are proud of our students and teachers, and the results they produced during the 2021-22 school year,” RRCSD Superintendent Michael Shoaf said. “The report card shared today by the Ohio Department of Education is one of several measures that we analyze to evaluate student academic performance in our district. We have a long-standing tradition of academic excellence in the district and that is a direct reflection of the hard work of our staff and students and the support we receive from parents/guardians and the community.”

RRCSD posted 5-star ratings, the highest possible, for Student Achievement, Progress, Gap Closing and Graduation Rate, and a 4-star rating for Early Literacy. The district’s performance index (PI) score of 108.0, a calculation that measures how well students perform on the Ohio State Tests (OSTs), is the second highest the district has achieved since the revised OSTs began in 2016 and the second highest PI score in the state this year.

In addition to the state report card results, the district is proud to highlight success in other areas:

  • On the most recent Advanced Placement (AP) Exam results from the spring of 2022, the district not only earned its highest average score, 3.7, but also its highest percentage ever of students earning a score of 3 or higher, 86%.
  • During the 2021-22 school year, 11 seniors and two juniors earned the Ohio Seal of Biliteracy in French, Romanian or Spanish.
  • Also during the 2021-22 school year, 18 students were awarded an AP Capstone Diploma, and eight were awarded an AP Seminar and Research Certificate.
  • Last week, an RRHS senior received the National African American Recognition Award from the College Board National Recognition Program.
  • Just yesterday morning, Rocky River High School lauded 16 students with National Merit recognitions: nine semi-finalists and seven commended scholars.

While COVID presented unique challenges for the district, it has not undone a history of high performance and success.

“Our student performances exemplify the high expectations we continually strive for,” Shoaf said. Everyone in the district and the community can be extremely proud of these results.”
