RR Volleyball
ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- On Thursday, Rocky River tasted defeat for the first time this season, losing a 3-1 contest at Bay. On Tuesday, the Pirates bounced back from that setback in impressive fashion. Running its home record to an unblemished 3-0. River defeated Fairview, 3-0.

In a taut clash between the denizens of Wagar Rd. and West 210th St., the Pirates earned the win, 26-24, 25-23, 25-20. Sophomore Samantha Young hit .420 with 25 kills on a night that saw the Warriors hold River to a .165 mark. Senior Estella Giomini led a passing game that helped Young, Madie Shoaf (10 kills), and the rest of a clutch frontcourt in the win in front of an enthusiastic crowd on home hardwood. Giomini had 37 assists, her most in a three-set match this season.

"Our passing was solid," noted head coach Brittany Morris. "This is a big week for us, and we need to turn tonight into a good practice tomorrow and get some confidence going."

Shoaf registered a team-high 16 digs on a night that saw five Pirates log double-digit totals. Included in that quintet was Clare Duffy who registered 11 digs and two aces in the Great Lakes Conference West Division triumph.
