RRHS & RRMS Writers Earn Honors in Scholastic Contest

January 14, 2022

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – A trio of students from the Rocky River City School District combined to receive four awards for their writing in the prestigious Scholastic Writing Awards regional competition.

Rocky River High School freshman Beatrix Stickney received two Silver Key Awards, while her classmate Ellie Hammarlund earned an Honorable Mention Award. At Rocky River Middle School, eighth grader Maeve Costello earned a Silver Key Award.

The Cleveland Institute of Art hosts the regional competition that recognizes creative achievement for students in grades 7-12 in Northeast Ohio. A panel of local professional artists, art educators, writers, and writing educators jury the exhibit and select the awarded pieces from nearly 3,000 entries.

This year’s regional winners will be honored at a virtual awards ceremony on January 15 and their work will be on display in the Cleveland Institute of Art’s gallery through January 28.
