ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Students at Goldwood Primary School and Kensington Intermediate School took part in Right to Read Week from March 11-15 with different events, visits from authors and a special visit by Jungle Terry to Kensington.

The theme for the week at Goldwood was “Illustrate Your World with Books” with daily events being featured throughout the week. On Thursday, students brought a book with illustrations to school and had a 10-minute Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) period for the entire school. No matter where students, teachers and staff were, everybody stopped what they were doing and read for 10 minutes.

Goldwood also featured a Reading Buddies Program where each class was paired up with a younger or older class to get together and read during the week.

Finally, illustrators Jeanette and Christopher Canyon visited Goldwood for a morning and afternoon assembly on Friday where they presented an engaging, educational, and entertaining programming to promote literacy & the arts.

At Kensington, students participated in different events throughout the week under the theme of “Wild About Reading”. On Tuesday, author David FitzSimmons spoke with students. He is an award-winning photographer and writer and his Curious Critters children's picture books have won numerous national book awards. In keeping with the “Wild About Reading” theme of the week, students were treated to a visit from Jungle Terry, a long-time animal entertainer, on Thursday.
