Pirates cage Panthers, win another in GLC play

ELYRIA, Ohio – Rocky River defeated Elyria Catholic, 3-1, on Thursday.

The Pirates were strong in closing out three close set wins in the eventual 25-22, 26-24, 13-25, 25-18 Great Lakes Conference victory.

River hit .190 for the match, getting solid production up front from Paige Watie (13 kills, .384 average, two blocks), Emily Stanciu (14 kills, .261) and Austoria Miller (11 kills). Waite landed 92.9 % (14-of-15) of her serves, slipping two past the Panther defense for aces. The Pirates would collect eight aces on the night.

Amanda Franz (20 digs) was one of four players (Franz, Stanciu, Taylor Spies, Miller) to record double-digit figures in digs. Spies added 41 assists in setting up the Rocky River Swat Team.

The match at EC came just two days after battling the Bay Rockets in a taut 3-2 match. Over the two circuit matches the Pirates were embroiled in six sets decided by six points or less.
