ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Two Rocky
River Middle School students were honored at the Stop the Hate Youth Speak Out
Essay Writing Contest Awards ceremony that took place at the Cleveland Museum
of Art of Thursday (March 14) evening.
Gianna Miller was named the first place winner
in the eighth grade contest, while classmate Gigi Konrad earned third place.
In February, the duo was named two of the
top-25 finalists in the contest, which included the top-10 juniors and seniors
and the three finalists each in grades 6-10.
The annual contest
gives students a platform to use their voices to speak out against hate and
stand up for inclusion. The prestigious contest offers students the chance to
earn individual scholarship money.
More than 2,500
students from 12 counties in Northeast Ohio shared their voices by speaking out
through their essay writing this year.
