ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Rocky River placed seventh in the Rocky River Invitational, held Friday at Tri-City Park and Magnificat High School.

The Pirates garnered six points in the event, which featured numerous top west-side squads.

“We couldn't have asked for a better way to kick off the 2019 fall season,” said Head Coach JoHanna Forman.  “The teams that participated in this invitational were very strong.  We faced competitive matches today, and having these early tough matches challenged us both individually and as a team.”

River athletes won five matches in the event. Freshman Sam Robertson went 1-2 with a pair of hard-fought losses in first singles.

Becca Krebs went 1-2 in second singles; went 1-2 in third singles. Carmen Rhinehalt and Caitlin Kelly went 1-2 in first doubles; Maggie Blossey and Maire Kate Hickey went 1-2 in second doubles.

Brecksville (27 points) and North Canton Hoover (27) tied for first in the eight-team event. Magnificat (24) carded a third-place finish.

“I was really impressed with how our team stepped up,” said Forman. “We have a young team, but they came together against fierce competitors.”
