Bucs battle rain and top foes in Avon
Boys Golf

AVON, Ohio – The Pirates placed 15th in a talented 18-team field at the St. Ignatius Invitational, held Tuesday at Red Tail Golf Club.

“This was a notable field,” said Head Coach David Hendrickson of the 17 other teams gathered at the Avon track. “Considering the field and the course, I thought we battled.”

In rounds posted over a sunny morning and rainy afternoon, the Pirates carded a team score of 344. Mac Milenius (83) and Will Bennett (85) were Rocky River’s top scorers.

Bennett’s round included a near-eagle on the par-5 15th. The junior hit a tremendous third shot, nearly jarring it from 160 yards out. He cleaned up the remaining work for his lone birdie of the day.

Hoban won the event with a four-man score of 292. Cincinnati Moeller (299) and St. Ignatius (299) finished second and third, respectively. Moeller took runner-up honors going to a fifth-on-the-card tiebreaker. St. Ignatius’ Topher Reed earned medalist honors by firing a 3-under 69 on the 6,542-yard, par-72 layout.
