ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Fresh off a
successful performance of Singin’ in the Rain as the spring musical, Rocky River High School (RRHS) Drama Club
students will have an opportunity to spend time on stage with a Broadway
performer.
Corey
Cott, who grew up in nearby Chagrin Falls, will visit RRHS on May 6 and lead a private
Master Class from 3:00-6:30pm. It will give Cott a chance to critique and provide suggestions on how
students can improve their performance in solo and group numbers. The Master
Class will include students being taught a group number that they will perform
with Cott at a concert later that evening. Cott will also host a Q&A
session for the students.
Performing arts students from Rocky River
Middle School (RRMS) will be invited to observe the Master Class.
Following
the Master Class, Rocky River students will present a concert in the RRHS
auditorium that will be open to the public beginning at 7:30pm. The showcase
concert will feature students performing solos and a group number with Cott by those
who were in the Master Class.
Tickets
for the concert will be available at the door for $5.00. Students will be
admitted for free.
Cott is best known for playing Jack Kelly
in the Broadway musical Newsies and
for originating the role of Donny Novistski in the Broadway musical Bandstand. He will star in the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s upcoming presentation of West
Side Story in May.
On May 5, students will work with a music
director from New York, leading up to the Master Class with Cott.
The opportunity is being funded by a grant from
the Rocky River Education Foundation.
