ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Next time you are unable to attend a Pirate game at the stadium, in the gym, or at the baseball or softball field, the Rocky River Broadcasting Club may have you covered.

Now in its second year, the Broadcasting Club gives students the opportunity to live stream Pirate athletics contests over the internet through video and play-by-play. The group is also active on social media (@rrhsBN on Twitter) promoting their broadcast schedule through the use of graphics.

Mr. Sean O’Neill, an Educational Aide at Rocky River High School (RRHS) is the Broadcast Club advisor. The club is made up of about 25-30 students who represent all four grade levels.

The club broadcasts select Pirate football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, wrestling, lacrosse, baseball and softball games throughout the year. The group has produced about 40 games this year and has plans to broadcast 10 to 12 more this spring.

Students work a wide range of broadcasts depending on what fits into their schedules. Some students work as little as two to three games per year, while others work upwards of eight to 10 games.

The club had a broadcast team at National Letter of Intent Signing Day in November and produced broadcasts for two robotics matches in March at Cleveland State’s Wolstein Center. The RRHS Broadcasting Club is looking at adding more events outside of athletics in the future.
