FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 11, 2019
ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Rocky River
High School senior Charlotte Weixel was recently named a candidate in the 2019
U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
Weixel is one of approximately 4,500
candidates selected throughout the country from the nearly 3.6 million students
expected to graduate from high schools this year.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program is
now in its 55th year and is one of the highest honors bestowed upon
graduating high school seniors.
The program was established in 1964 by Executive Order of the President to honor some of the nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Scholars are selected based on superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities.
A panel of educators will review the submissions
and select 600 semifinalists in early April. The Commission on Presidential
Scholars will select up to 161 finalists and the U.S. Department of Education
will announce the scholars in May and will invite those honorees to Washington,
D.C. for the National Recognition Program in June.
Congratulations on this exceptional accomplishment and best of luck, Charlotte!
