Pirate Press Earns Ohio Scholastic Media Association Awards
Rocky River High School’s Pirate Press student newspaper won 19 awards in the Ohio Scholastic Media Association’s (OSMA) state contest.

The Pirate Press staff earned third place overall in the Newsmagazine category. Senior Ben Krampitz earned a Superior rating in the Non-Editorial Art category.

Excellent ratings were earned by seniors Kristin Berchak for Editorial Page Layout and Online Sports Story, Alyssa Ehrman for Online Opinion, Jacqueline Pappadakes for Editorial Page Layout and Jamie Spallino for Online Opinion. Junior Shatha Shahin earned an Excellent rating in the Editorial Page Layout category.

Honorable mentions were won by Juliet Deane and Jacqueline Pappadakes for Newswriting, Alyssa Ehrman and Jacquelyn Pappadakes for Personality Profile, Jamie Spallino for Editorial, Shatha Shahin and Kristin Berchak for Review, Jamie Spallino for Sports Opinion, Alyssa Ehrman and Jacquelyn Pappadakes for Photo Story, Ben Krampitz for Front Page/Cover Magazine Layout, Kristin Berchak and Teagan Smith for Sports Page Layout, Jamie Spallino for Sports Photo, and Maddy Smith and Payton Szymczak for Online Sports Story.

Awards were presented during the OSMA state convention at Kent State University on April 12 and 13. Newspaper advisor is Ashley Morris.
