Speedy soph is state-bound after strong region run
RR Girls' XC

BOARDMAN, Ohio – Samantha Coleman placed 16th in the Boardman Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday. With that finish, the Pirate sophomore is headed for the Ohio Championships for a second straight autumn. [Girls DI Results]

River’s talented sophomore runner needed a top-32 finish to return to the state run; Coleman earned a top-100 finish in the 2018 Ohio Cross Country Championships. On Saturday in Boardman, she covered the 5k course and crossed the wire with a final time of 19:26.53. Behind just 15 runners. One slot ahead of her finish in the same race a year ago.

And now the two-time Great Lakes Conference champion’s tremendous fall runs have an end point – the finish line at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio. The state’s title race will be held Nov. 2.

Also competing in Boardman on Saturday was the Rocky River boys’ team. The Pirates placed 23rd in the region meet. Led by Luke Kishna’s 17-minute-2-second time (17:02.51), River carded a five-man score of 502 points. [Boys DI Results]

The top finishers for the Maroon & White were Kishna (49th in the overall field, 42nd in team scoring), Sam Buehrle (120/97), Luke Dorenkott (143/116), Seth Williams (148/120) and Greg Ganor (155/127). River’s average time was 17:43.51.

The Kenston Bombers logged an average time of 16:46.77 in winning the region title at the event hosted by Boardman High School.
