Sweep success! River tops Buckeye, closes out season sweep

MEDINA, Ohio – Rocky River closed out a season sweep of the Buckeye Bucks in convincing fashion, with a 3-0 road victory in Tuesday night Great Lakes Conference Volleyball action.

The Pirates prevailed by scores of 25-19, 25-15, 25-23, in a cleaner effort than the 3-2 win over the Bucks in Rocky River on Sept. 7.

Rocky River’s frontcourt efficiency spelled the better match control on Tuesday. In their first meeting with Buckeye, River swatters hit .133 and were tagged with 10 blocking errors. On Tuesday, the Maroon & White hit .190 and committed just three such errors (against six blocks).

Sophomore Paige Waite had 10 kills against just one hitting error in posting a .310 attack mark. Waite added eight digs and five blocks. Junior Austoria Miller added eight kills against two hitting errors. Miller also chipped in with two aces and five digs.

Senior Emily Stanciu registered eight kills and 11 digs. Fellow senior Amanda Franz added 18 digs against just three errors.

The Pirates (14-7, 11-4 GLC) also got three aces from Clare Duffy and 20 assists from Emily Slyman.

Rocky River is now 6-4 over 10 road matches. Tuesday’s 3-0 shutout marked the team’s first since Sept. 19.
