ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Rocky River City School District Executive Director of Pupil Services Jennifer Norman has created a program called River Rrocks, which is designed to help spread kindness throughout the community.

Started in November, Norman put together baskets with rocks and markers and distributed them to the counselors at every building in the district. Students, teachers, and staff are able to paint rocks and write inspirational messages, words, and phrases on them. Each rock is then placed throughout the community for others to find and keep, or pass on to someone else.

“We have already seen some great designs and creative messages on the rocks,” Norman said. “This is an opportunity for our students and staff to cultivate connections in the community. A small act of kindness, such as painting a rock, or finding a rock with an inspirational message, can leave a lasting impression and change someone’s day or outlook.”

The rocks are a simple and creative way to be kind and think of others. By sharing ideas, writing inspirational messages, and using their creative artistic talents, the students will continue to foster a sense of kindness throughout the year.

Several groups have already taken part in the initiative, including Kristen Kalinowski’s Freshman Mentoring Program at Rocky River High School, and the Rocky River Board of Education at the November business meeting.

As a Kindness Certified School District, this initiative is just another way Rocky River students and staff are continuing to spread kindness and positivity in the community.

Proving once again, Rocky River Rrocks!

If you find a River Rrock at school or in the community, please consider uploading a picture of the rock on the district social media platforms, @RrCitySchools on Twitter and Instagram, and where it was found.
