MEDINA, Ohio – The Wrestling Raiders placed sixth in
Saturday’s Great Lakes Conference Championship Tournament.
Seniors Matt Williams and Mahdi Salti highlighted the event
for Rocky River. Both logged runner-up finishes – Williams at 113 pounds and
Salti at 195. Both River athletes went 1-1 Saturday and have finished second in
three straight league bracket finales.
Ergi Sulce placed third in the heavyweight division. Diego
Norena (106 pounds), Ryan Maloney (120), Mohammed Salti (126), Omar Abazied (138),
and Johnny Bebie (160) carded fifth-place finishes in the circuit’s
season-ending event which was held at Buckeye High School.
The next even for Pirate Wrestling will be the Feb. 29
sectional tournament hosted by Bay High School.
