Ruma hits for 22 as Double-R conquers Cornerstone
RR Boys' Basketball WILLOUGHBY, Ohio – Rocky River bolted to a 25-9 through eight minutes of play and hung on to earn a 61-49 win over Cornerstone in a non-conference game on Saturday.

With senior guards Connor O’Toole and Tommy Ruma leading the way, River broke open a big advantage early. O’Toole connected on a pair of treys and Ruma scored 11 points in a first quarter which saw the visiting Pirates set a tone.

The Men in Maroon hit six triples in doubling up the Patriots, 38-19, over the first half. For the game, River’s 61 points marked the team’s most in a single game since Jan. 24 (63 at Valley Forge).

Ruma finished with a game-high 22 points. Tommy Bebie had 12 points. Robby Lang added 10, and Braedon Spies added eight. [full game statistics unavailable at time of publication]

For the Pirates (11-9), the contest marked the team’s final road game of the regular season. River will close out its regular season this week with home games against Parma (Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.) and Kennedy (Friday, 7:30 p.m.). Friday’s game will mark Senior Night for Pirate Basketball.

Saturday’s win spelled a milestone in the coaching career of Rocky River Head Coach Mike Murray. The victory marked the 300th of Murray’s career, which includes 12 seasons as head coach for the Double-R girls’ program (1998-2010) and 10 at the helm of the Pirate boys’ team (2010-present).
