BAY VILLAGE, Ohio -- The Wrestling Raiders earned a Great Lakes Conference split on Thursday evening, as Rocky River defeated Normandy and lost to Bay.
The Pirates bested Normandy, 51-26, and lost to the host Rockets, 63-18.
"We had a lot of guys step up in the win over Normandy," said Head Coach Matt Sycz. "We got a lift from guys like Matt Williams, Ryan Maloney, John Sadiku, Ergi Sulce, and Obaida Abazied."
Abazied's bout against Normandy (162 pounds) was a shot of adrenaline for the entire team. The junior grappler battled back to turn a deficit into a 13-7 victory.
"Against Bay," said Sycz,"we lost to a solid team with a lot of exerience. But, we'll learn and grow."
