ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – The Rocky River City
School District will be hosting a Hidden
in Plain Sight Town Hall Meeting on March 9 beginning at 7:00pm in the
Rocky River Middle School (RRMS) Commons.
The
meeting aims to bring awareness to parents and guardians about the signs of
drug and alcohol use and other risky behaviors in teens.
D.A.R.E. Officer Chris Camp and RRMS School Resource Officer Matt Blazer will recreate a mock teenager’s bedroom complete with areas to hide drugs and alcohol that parents and guardians will be able to walk through. The display will look like a typical bedroom, but will contain several items that could be used as drug paraphernalia, as well as hiding places for drugs and alcohol.
Parents
and guardians will be given 15-20 minutes to walk through the bedroom to spot
as many hidden items as they can find. Officers Camp and Blazer will follow
with a presentation to show what items were missed in the mock bedroom, go over
current alcohol and drug trends, and share materials and resources about how to
seek assistance and support.
The event is free.
