ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – The Rocky River Middle School (RRMS) eighth grade Power of the Pen team finished second out of 22 schools at the Columbia District Tournament that was held on February 6. The district competition featured three 40 minute blocks of time for competitors to write three stories in response to specific creative writing prompts.

This is the inaugural year for Power of the Pen at RRMS.

Two members of the 8th grade team received special recognition, including Kaiya Mayich who earned third place and Beatrix Stickney who placed 10th overall. There were a total of 105 eighth graders competing at the district tournament.

Power of the Pen gives special recognition to the top-12 writers in each grade at the district tournament. A majority of seventh and eighth grade team members qualified to compete at the regional competition to be held on March 13.
