RRMS Power of the Pen Team Places Third at District Competition

WATCH: Regional Awards Ceremony

 

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – The Rocky River Middle School (RRMS) Power of the Pen team competed at the Northern Regional Tournament on March 13. The 8th grade team placed third overall. RRMS also placed third in the Sweepstakes, which combines scores for 7th and 8th grade writers.

 

The Pirates, who are in their inaugural season of Power of the Pen, were the top finishing public school in the Sweepstakes at regionals.

 

Two members of the 8th grade team placed in the top-12 to earn automatic spots at the state tournament which will be held virtually on May 15. Beatrix Stickney was third overall and Kaiya Mayich placed eighth overall.

 

They will be joined at the state tournament by teammates Jordyn Belko, Rebekah Douglas and Gigi Moeller who also advanced to the state tournament by finishing among the top 20-percent of writers at the regional competition.

 

Power of the Pen is the leading interscholastic program in written expression for 7th and 8th graders in Ohio.  The organization’s mission is to empower young people to find and develop a creative voice that is uniquely their own by engaging students in interscholastic writing tournaments and providing a platform for publication.
