FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (Sept. 19, 2024) -- Rocky River has captured a Lake Erie Girls Golf Association title for a third straight year. On Thursday, the Pirates won the six-team LEGGA Championship Tournament. That event was the final piece of the circuit's scoring system which awards points for placement in the league preview tournament, head-to-head matches, and the 18-hole finale.
On Thursday, playing on their home track at Big Met Golf Course, the Pirates posted a four-man score of 346. That was the top figure carded on the 5,479-yard, par-73 riverside grounds on what was a warm day in the valley. Senior Mia Ginnetti led the way, notching a 37-40--77 to earn a runner-up finish in the overall field (Sophia Clarico-Keystone: 75). Only Keystone finished within 30 strokes of the Buccaneers, and that was just barely. Paced by Clarico's fine round, the Wildcats fired a 375.
And River needed the win in the LEGGA tournament. In the final standings, the Double-R tallied 20 points, edging Keystone (18) for the crown. Bay (14) took third; Westlake (12) finished fourth.
On Thursday, Rocky River's top-4 were Ginnetti, Addie Crane (41-44--85), Julia Schmid (45-46--91), and Rylie Quaiser (50-43--93). The team's 346 total marks its best score of the season, besting a 349 the Pirates fired in the Aug. 20 Flamingo Frenzy at Ridgewood Golf Course. Crane's 85 marked a season-best; Quaiser tied her season-best with her round. Ginnetti's 77 marked her fifth sub-80 round this season.
That Pirate squad earned a win in the Aug. 5 LEGGA Preview at Grey Hawk Golf Course. The Maroon & White then went 8-2 across 10 league matches. On Thursday, the Buccaneers closed the deal.
Titles in the Lake Erie league flow through Rocky River.
