Double-R saddled with back-to-back shutout losses Friday & Saturday
RR Baseball
ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (May 6, 2024) -- Rocky River went 0-for-the-weekend -- both in the win column and in runs scored -- as the Pirates suffered back-to-back shutout losses Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the Maroon & White lost 9-0 at Benedictine. On Saturday, the River Raiders were blanked 6-0 at Avon Lake. The Pirate batting attack was held to two hits in each game, and the River defense was undone by seven combined errors.

With the twin setbacks, No. 5-ranked (Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association DII poll) Pirates (17-4) are now 2-4 across their last half-dozen games. Rocky River has scored just 11 runs over those six games.

The Sons of Blackbeard are slated to return to Great Lakes Conference West Division play Monday and Tuesday with a War-by-the-Shore home-and-home series with the Bay Rockets. That rivalry set is scheduled to open Monday with a 5 p.m. tilt at Rocky River Field, where this season the Pirates are 9-0.
