ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Sept. 3, 2024) -- The Pirates remained unbeaten with a 3-0 victory over Normandy in Tuesday Cleveland West Conference. Rocky River (3-0, 3-0 CWC) topped the visiting Invaders 25-19, 25-11, 25-15.
The Maroon & White hit .282 and served up nine aces in what marked River's ninth straight win over Normandy. Seniors Ella Brokaw (eight kills, .316 hitting percentage) and Sophia Goldberg (5K, .556) led the River frontcourt, and senior captain Ella Duffy chipped in with 11 assists, five digs, and three service aces.
Led by their defense, the Invaders (0-7, 0-3) showed some grit on a few runs, especially in the first and third games. But they were eventually overpowered by Rocky River and held to a negative hitting mark (-.024) for the evening. Normandy's Hannah Moseley registered 14D and three aces.
Kylie Spies had 14A and 8D for the Pirates. Lilly Cupp added 7A and 15D.
For the Buccaneers, the battle at Rocky River Gymnasium marked the first of two CWC contests this week. Rocky River will travel to Westlake on Thursday.
