ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (April 16, 2025) -- After being limited to just a half-dozen runs over their three previous games -- all losses -- the Pirate bats pillaged and plundered on Wednesday. Rocky River banged out 12 hits, including eight with runners in scoring position, in a 14-4 rout of the Valley Forge Patriots.
River batters were walked 11 times, and the Patriots committed four defensive errors, so the Buccaneers' 11 singles and one double were just part of a Maroon & White conga line circuiting the bags at Northview & 90. The Double-R scored in five of the game's six innings. An eight-spot in the bottom of the fifth loomed large in getting the Cleveland West Conference game into run-rule territory. Addie Dietrich, Maggie Heigle, and Maddie Sollars each reached base twice in that big fifth frame.
For the game, Heigle wore two inside deliveries and walked twice. She ledgered three stolen bases and scored as many runs. Reagan Kane doubled, singled and walked three times in five plate appearances. Leigh Konet went 3-for-4. Elizabeth Smalley went 2-for-4 and knocked in four runs.
Ava Mae DeMooy pitched for the Pirates and allowed four runs on four hits and six walks; she struck out 14.
Rocky River (5-3, 1-2 CWC), which had lost the three straight games and had multiple games postponed of late, earned its first win in two weeks. The Double-R will look to get on a streak of another kind with a Thursday road game against rival Bay.
