Pirates sink Chardon 15-4
Grace DeWitt
ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (April 26, 2025) -- On Saturday, Rocky River returned to action after a 10-day hiatus, and the Pirates sailed to a 15-4 victory over the Chardon Hilltoppers.

The non-conference contest was tight early, and when Chardon scored the first goal of the second quarter -- in the seventh minute of that period -- the Pirates found themselves up just 3-2. But Rocky River (7-4) wouldn't yield another Hilltopper score until late in the third. In the interim, senior midfielder Grace DeWitt had scored four goals and River had netted nine.

With the Rocky River defense allowing just six shots on frame for the game, the Pirates held the visitors to a set of fence posts in the line score. They have yielded just eight goals over their last two games.

River won 16-of-23 (70%) draws and was a plus-6 in turnover margin. DeWitt logged 12 of the Buccaneers' 12 draw controls, setting a new single-game program record. She finished the game with six goals, six ground balls and five caused turnovers.

Addie Tisler added 4G and two assists. Ellie Holton filed 2G and 2A; Emma Yezbak had 3A and helped key the Pirates' success on midfield scrums. Kylie Spies registered five spills.

The Double-R will return to action Tuesday at Wooster (7 p.m.).
