January 31, 2023

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – The Rocky River High School Concert Band and Wind Ensemble performed at the 19th Annual Northeast Ohio Band Invitational on Sunday at Severance Music Center. RRHS was one of six bands to participate in the event and was the first school to take the stage at 2:00pm.

The Concert Band performed two pieces, “Byzantine Dances” and “On the Wings of Swallows”, while the Wind Ensemble played “Who’s Who in Navy Blue”, “Halcyon Hearts”, “Poor, Wayfaring Stranger” and “Bambuco”.

Members of the RRHS Chorale and Treble Ensemble were featured during the “Poor, Wayfaring Stranger” piece.

The Northeast Ohio Band Invitational is an annual performance sponsored by the Cleveland Institute of Music where members of the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony (CYWS) get to perform, and local college and high school bands are invited to join them.

This marked the third time that RRHS has played at the event (2009, 2014).

RRHS was joined this year by Nordonia High School, CYWS Group I, Youngstown State University, Firelands High School and St. Edward High School.
