RR Boys Soccer

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Oct. 5, 2022) -- Rocky River was felled by Westlake in Wednesday night Great Lakes Conference West Division action.

The Demons prevailed 1-0 in a taut battle at Rocky River Stadium. A ninth-minute goal by Liam McCarthy would be the lone score in the match. Westlake goalkeeper Leo Zanotti made two key saves in the first half to keep the Pirates off the scoreboard.

Zannotti and the sixth-ranked (Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association DI) Demons (13-0-1, 4-0 GLC West) remained undefeated on the season by pitching their 10th shutout. Rocky River (4-6-4, 0-4) was held scoreless for a seventh time this season.

Senior River 'keeper Will DeClerck came up big with eight saves to keep the Pirates close to the ranked Demons.

Westlake has now won three in a row over River since the Pirates last claimed a win in the west-side neighborhood series (1-0, Sept. 23, 2019, at Rocky River Stadium).

The River Raiders are slated to close out their regular-season slate Oct. 12 at Fairview.
