ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Feb. 19, 2025) -- Rocky River's fine 2024-25 season came to an end Wednesday, as the Pirates fell to Akron Ellet 49-37 in DIII tournament action.
Rocky River (18-5), the No. 7 seed in the state tournament's Northeast District, had not tasted defeat Jan. 15. Wednesday's loss in DIII Region 9 Tournament action snapped a seven-game win streak, the program's longest in two years.
The No. 11 Ellet Orangemen (20-4) now move on to a final game in the Northeast 4 bracket of the DIII Region 9 tournament. On Saturday, Ellet will take on No. 8 Cuyahoga Valley for the right to move on in the Buckeye State title event which runs through March 15.
Nora Bruder (11 points), Elizabeth Lang (9P), and Olivia Dewey (8P) paced the Buccaneer offense. The Orangemen were led by Caitlyn Holmes (13P) and Sanaiiya Gray (11P).
Rocky River's 37 points marked its fewest in a single game since Jan. 11.
"I am certainly still proud of this group," said coach Jamey Pfahl, whose Pirates won the 2024-25 Cleveland West Conference title earlier this month. "As usual, this group gave their everything."
