Information for Return to School on January 24, 2022

January 21, 2022

Dear RRCSD Parents and Guardians:

The mask requirement for Rocky River City School District (RRCSD) students and staff is set to expire on Sunday, January 23. After discussion at last night’s Board of Education meeting, this mask requirement will be lifted for all K-12 buildings beginning on Monday, January 24. Masks will still be required for preschool students and staff, and on all school buses, per the public health order for public transportation.

While masks will no longer be required for grades K-12, it is strongly recommended that all students and staff wear masks while in district buildings, which follows the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH).

As stated several times over the last year, we are fortunate to have multiple mitigation strategies in place in all buildings, including hand washing stations and hand sanitizer dispensers, socially distanced lunch areas, daily sanitizing of all classrooms, common areas, bathrooms and locker rooms and updated HVAC systems utilizing MERV 8-15A filters and UV-C technology to sanitize air. In addition, children ages 5-11 are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, while those ages 12 and older can receive a COVID-19 booster shot.

The district will continue to follow the Mask to Stay/Test to Play option. Students and staff who are identified as a close contact to a positive COVID-19 case will be required to mask for a designated period of time following exposure.

While our COVID-19 data is trending in a better direction, this situation remains fluid and can change with little notice. If virus transmission in our community escalates, or there are other unforeseen circumstances, the Board of Education has authorized a return to requiring masks.

I ask for your continued cooperation and that you please respect the choice of families in regards to masking. Please continue checking your children for symptoms each day before sending them to school and keep them home if they are ill. If your child(ren) tests positive for COVID-19, please report that to the building principal. We will continue to update our COVID-19 dashboard and review our school and community data.

Thank you for your continued support of the Rocky River City School District.

Sincerely,

Michael Shoaf
Superintendent
