River Raiders plunder Lakewood, 165-205

Robby Lang

BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Rocky River ran its Great Lakes Conference record to 8-1 with a decisive victory over Lakewood Tuesday.

A golf towel could cover River's top four scores in the match. The Pirates (8-2, 8-1 GLC) carded three 41s (Nick Tianello, Wes Bennett, Robby Lang) and a 42 over the 3,095 yards of the inward nine at Seneca Golf Course. The resulting 165 bested the Rangers (205) by 40 strokes. The Pirates have now fired a 163, 164, or 165 in four of the team's last five matches.

Tianello made Rocky River's lone birdie of the day with a 3 on the 407-yard, par-4 fifth. He played his last five holes in 1-over.

"We overcame some early struggles on the greens to put together some decent days," said head coach David Hendrickson. "After a tough start to the round, it was good to see us stay with it and finish strong."

BROTHERS BASH BRUINS: The Pirate JV defeated Padua, 191-223, at Pleasant Valley Golf Club Monday. The Petrus brothers -- Jack and Luke -- led the charge, each firing 47s. The junior varsity is 8-2 on the season.
