BRECKSVILLE, Ohio – River’s Cross Country teams performed well in a large-field atmosphere at the Bruce Lerch Invitational on Saturday. A balanced boys’ effort netted a fifth-place finish in the event hosted by Brecksville High School. With Samantha Coleman leading the way with a fifth-place finish, the Rocky River girls took seventh. [results: B

On the boys’ side, all five of River’s scoring runners earned top-50 finishes as the Pirates carded 164 points – good for fifth in a field of 26 teams. Junior Luke Kishna powered his way to a 14th-place
finish with a time of 17:24.7. Kishna was joined on River score sheet by
freshman Guillaume Carroll (32nd place), senior Luke Erml (37th),
sophomore Sam Buehrle (40th) and freshman Luke Dorenkott (41st). Saturday’s individual field included 202 runners.
The Pirate boys registered an average time of 18:12. Woodridge won the boys’ event with a score of 31 team points.
On the girls’ side River placed seventh in a field of 19 teams. Coleman’s big run – taking fifth in 20:09.06 – was backed up by two other top-40 finishes. Sophomore Ella Russell took 24th place; junior Alison
Ritvo took 35th. River’s average time over a twisting course with multiple elevation changes was 21:59. The team’s point total was 164.
Woodridge (76 points) edged Brunswick (91) for the girls’ title.
CANNON FIRE …
RR JV XC A-OK: Rocky River also goy solid performances by its junior varsity runners. On the boys’ side River took fourth place in a field of 16 teams. Newcomers Ethan Hazra and Majdid Abuan paced the Pirate effort; both logged finishing times under 19:50. The River girls took eighth in a field of 12 JV teams. Junior Emma Clark logged a 19th-place finish
to lead the Maroon & White.
UP NEXT: The boys’ team heads for a a race in Galion, Ohio, while the girls head to Youngstown for an invitational hosted by Boardman High School. Both events will be held on Saturday.
