Low-score by the Shore

RR Boys' Golf

AVON, Ohio – Rocky River rode the low digits posted by Sonny Fricano and Mac Milenius in defeating the Bay Rockets, 159-168, in a Great Lakes Conference match at Sweetbriar Golf Club on Tuesday.

Fricano and Milenius each carded 39s on a day whereby River’s top-4 scores could be covered by a golf towel. They were backed up by a surging Aidan McDonald (40) and a consistent Ethan Mylett (41), as the Pirates (16-2, 14-1 GLC) won their 14th league match in 15 tries this season.

Eddie Papp was the low man for Bay; Papp fired a 41 on the par-35, 2,934-yard front nine at Sweetbriar.

But Papp would be topped by two twice over by Messrs. Fricano and Milenius. Fricano bookended his round with birdies on the par-4 first and the par-4 ninth. Milenius – whose 39 marked a season-best – carded birdies on the par-5 third and par-4 eighth. He lowered his season average to 85.2.

Fricano has now averaged a fine 80.2 since Aug. 15. His season stroke average now sits at 82.0. He ha been River’s low man three times this season.

Aidan McDonald’s 40 came on the heels of a career-best 36 on Sept. 4. McDonald has averaged a 78.9 since Aug. 13. And Ethan Mylett’s 41 fits with his level stuff of late. Mylett has averaged a full-round 82.0 since opening his season 89-89 on Aug. 5-6.
