ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Three
students from the Rocky River City School District recently earned awards in
the 2019 Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) Poster Contest.
The trio will be recognized at the 2019 Poster Contest Awards Ceremony on June
18 at the Cuyahoga SWCD office and will also have a chance to meet staff members
and learn about the field of conservation.
Third grader Bradley Beck won top prize for
Grades 2-3, while third grader Maia Swislocki earned second place in the
competition. In addition, fourth grader Annie Wissman claimed second place in
the Grades 4-6 division.
The theme of this year’s contest was “Crooked River – 50 Years of Progress” and focused on what the Cuyahoga River would look like if it wasn’t cleaned up and what it will look like in the future if we work harder to care for it.
All posters were evaluated on the following
criteria:

Conservation message (uses correct theme)
- 30% - Visual effectiveness
- 10% -
Universal appeal
- 10% -
Originality
The Cuyahoga Soil
& Water Conservation District sponsors an annual poster contest for
Cuyahoga County students in grades K-12 with awards handed out for first and
second place in the following grade categories: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12.
